Learning objectives:
- Becoming more confident when delivering sessions.
- Delivering small parts of the session/ teaching to small groups or individuals.
- Develop my own knowledge of starting your own company and what it involves.
- To improve my problem-solving skills during sessions that don’t go to plan.
During the performing arts session I felt uncomfortable as dancing and singing isn’t an activity I have much knowledge in. However, during the session, I became more involved and was able to help the children that were struggling with the movements. This allowed me to work towards one of my learning objectives of becoming more confident delivering different sessions. By working at Phyizikidz I have developed my confidence delivering small parts of a dance session, this was something I wouldn’t have any knowledge in before doing it at the holiday club.
When delivering the sports competition, I felt comfortable in the leading role. I believe this was because I knew how to coach an assault course and I am already comfortable coaching these children. However, if I was to do the assault course again, I’d set the course out twice so that the children aren’t waiting around for as long. Using Gibbs reflection cycle I can reflect on this situation and improve for the future.

During the delivery of my assault course there were lots of children sat around waiting. This allowed them to start messing around and they started obstructing the children completing the assault course. While this was happening, I felt nervous because I thought they were going to cause an accident. However, by going through this experience I know for future sessions it is important to try and keep everyone active so that they aren’t distracted by something else. My future action plan would be to set up multiple assault courses so that everyone is active at the same time and it doesn’t take as long.
I believe the holiday club benefits me as a coach because I can deliver any type of session, from sports to arts and crafts. By completing these types of sessions in front of a large group of children I am able to achieve my learning outcomes. For example, I have gained confidence delivering my own sessions in front of a large audience. I have also delivered small parts of the external coaches sessions which has allowed me to teach small groups and individuals. During the holiday club I have also asked Louise about how she set up her holiday club and how she got into the business. This has helped me to understand what I need to do from now and what qualifications I need before I start. Finally, I have also improved my problem-solving skills because during the holiday club problems occur on a regular basis. This has required me to think quickly on the spot to make sure the session is still successful.
